School Age Expanded Learning and Enrichment
Contact(s): Cyndie Osborne
The School-Age Expanded Learning and Enrichment curriculum prepares individuals to
work with children from elementary through middle grades in diverse, inclusive learning
environments.
Throughout the School-Age Expanded Learning and Enrichment program, students will
gain knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, computer technology
in education, the physical and nutritional needs of school-age children, care and
guidance practices, and ways to effectively communicate with parents, children, and
other professionals in the field. Learning opportunities and course assignments provide
students with a strong foundation to foster the cognitive/language, physical/motor,
social/emotional, and creative development of school-age populations. Students will
show competency in the program by integrating learned theories with practice in actual
settings with school-age children under the supervision of qualified professionals.
Students who complete the School-Age Expanded Learning and Enrichment curriculum will
be prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate programs and will have
opportunities to work in a variety of school-age settings, including school-age teacher
positions in child care programs, before/afterschool programs, paraprofessional positions
in public/private schools, recreational centers, and other programs that work with
school-age populations.
